Garden Fish Pond – Building and Proper Care For Your Fish Pond

By · Monday, January 4th, 2010

A garden fish pond can enhance the beauty of your yard. Everyone doesn’t have a beautiful garden, but if you’re blessed to have one, you can make it even more charming by adding or installing a fish pond. Building a fish pond is very enjoyable, but proper care for your fish pond will require some effort as well.

Building a pond requires time and effort, along with careful planning. You must consider the entire yard before you start digging for your garden fish pond. Carefully choose a permanent spot for the fish pond because the pond will affect the overall look of the

garden. The location should be the best that your yard has to offer because the pond will become the centerpiece of the entire yard. Remember that the pond’s location should be at the middle or highest elevation. The last thing you can afford is having a pond that’s flooded when heavy rains occur and besides, the fish might swim out of the pond and die.

Another important thing that you should remember is to never place a pond near a deciduous tree. Deciduous trees shed leaves almost everyday and so it can instantly pollute the pond if you don’t remove the tree debris everyday. You also have to determine the size of the pond and it should be proportional to the garden’s size. You can choose among different shapes for the pond like rectangular, oval, square, etc. but keep in mind that it should be symmetrical. Oftentimes, the size and shape of the garden fish pond depends on the kind of fish and water plants that you plan to put in it. The pond should also be placed in a location where there is direct sunlight so that the plants and fish are kept healthy.

So you see, there are various factors involved in building the pond. After building the garden fish pond, you must now take care of the pond to maintain its beauty. You can’t just leave the pond because soon, the fish and water plants will die because of pollution. Regular cleaning and proper fish feeding are some of your responsibilities. You must be sure that you follow through on your responsibility to keep the pond healthy and flourishing, healthy fish means that the pond is properly cared for by its owners.

Caring for a garden fish pond takes a good amount of time, so before you start building a pond, you have to ask yourself – am I ready for this responsibility? If your answer is yes, go ahead with the project. Now, you will enjoy your yard even more because the peace of your garden fish pond will offer serenity and calm to all that see and enjoy it.
